Live bank holiday updates as trains are cancelled, major route is shut and Easter Monday traffic hits roads

With heavy traffic expected today as the Easter bank holiday draws to a close, there has already been lots of disruption to transport and travel that could impact people's journeys. Part of the A40 in Carmarthenshire has been closed since around 5.30am this morning due to a serious collision. As of 10.35am, the eastbound and westbound lanes of the dual carriageway between Carmarthen and St Clears, remain closed.

Dyfed Powys Police is at the scene and said the route was expected to remain closed until later this afternoon. A spokeswoman for the force said: "We are in attendance at a road traffic collision which occurred at about 4.45am this morning. The collision occurred on the A40 eastbound just before Carmarthen.

"The A40, eastbound and westbound between Carmarthen and St Clears, remains closed. We anticipate high volumes of traffic due to Easter Bank Holiday – please avoid this route as it is likely to remain closed until later this afternoon. Traffic monitoring service Inrix said accident investigation work was underway and there was slow traffic in the area. You can follow our live updates on the crash here. Meanwhile, Transport for Wales and Great Western Railway announced there was currently severe disruption to rail services in south Wales this morning due to a power failure, with a 'do not travel' warning issued.
