Images from the scene show a 'no dogs allowed' sign and another notice reading that there is a 'dog exclusion order' across the cemetery.

The notices, which feature the Tameside Council logo, say 'no dogs allowed in the cemetery grounds', apart from guide dogs. The notices add that there is a maximum penalty of £1,000.

Armed police have descended on the cemetery and remain at the scene.
