LIVE Air ambulance lands in Piccadilly Gardens amid incident in city centre - updates

An air ambulance has landed in Piccadilly Gardens this afternoon (April 16) following an ongoing incident in Manchester city centre.

Large groups of onlookers were seen watching on as the helicopter landed in the gardens earlier today.

There is also a large police scene in place nearby in the Northern Quarter, with a cordon erected by police on Dale Street, at the junction with Tariff Street.

Police and paramedics remain in attendance this afternoon. Further details have not yet been confirmed.

A large scene remains in place on Dale Street this evening following the collision earlier.

A bin lorry is also taped off, but it is unclear whether this vehicle was involved in the incident.

Paramedics have taken a female pedestrian to hospital from the scene.
