LIVE: 1500 homes in Manchester without power - updates

More than 1,500 north Manchester residents have been left without power this evening due to a cut. According to Electricity North West 1,514 homes are currently without power.

The power cut is affecting properties with the M9 postcode, which covers areas such as Harpurhey, Blackley, and some of Middleton. Engineers from Electricity North West are on their way to investigate the cause of the cut.

In a social media post, they said: "We are aware of a #powercut in #Manchester #M9 affecting 1514 customers. Our engineers are on route to investigate.

Electricity North West have updated the incident on their website saying only 95 homes are now being affected. This is affected homes and businesses around Vale Park Way and Hendham Vale near Queen's Park, Harpurhey.

ENW expected power to be restored here at 21:10.

A Electricity North West spokesman has said the cut has been caused by an unexpected incident. A message on their website states: "This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident on the high voltage cable that provides electricity to your home or business.

"We didn't know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible."

They say teams are on their way to deal with the incident.
