Lisandro Martinez can get favourite Manchester United shirt number after transfer

After a slow start to the summer, Manchester United's transfer window is threatening to spark into life.

A little more than three weeks since the window officially opened, United are understood to be edging closer and closer to wrapping up their first signing of the summer in the form of Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia. United agreed a fee for the 22-year-old on Tuesday, hijacking his proposed move to Lyon. He is now on the cusp of sealing a move to Old Trafford.

United will hope that his impending arrival will mark the beginning of a flurry of new recruits, with manager Erik ten Hag determined to strengthen his armoury. The Manchester Evening News understands that United have also agreed a fee with Barcelona to sign Frenkie de Jong, but Barca president Joan Laporta has thrown a spanner into the works, insisting that they have 'no intention' of selling the Dutchman.

But United's interest in players extends beyond Malacia and De Jong, with several others currently on their radar, including Ajax ace Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine international is no stranger to Ten Hag and United have submitted a £37million bid to try and lure him to Old Trafford.

Premier League rivals Arsenal are also interested in signing the 24-year-old — who can play at centre-back, left-back and in defensive-midfield — with a under way for his signature.
