Lisa O'Rourke in action as Irish impress at Istanbul World Championships

Lisa O'Rourke leads the Irish challenge on day five of the Women's World Championships in Istanbul on Friday.

The Roscommon native, whose sister Aoife boxed for Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics, is looking to follow up her opening victory as she faces Dominican Republic boxer Maria Hernandez Moronta.

Victory in the round of 16 encounter would put the Olympic BC Galway fighter just one win away from a medal at the prestigious Turkey tournament.

On Thursday, Niamh Fay, Caitlin Fryers and Kaci Rock all progressed to the next round of the world Championships in Istanbul.

An emphatic performance from Fay in the 54kg division as she stopped Democratic Republic of Congo boxer Modestine Zalia Munga in the second round.

The Phoenix of Ballyboughal fighter will now take on Romania's Lacramioara Perijoc on Sunday.

Fryers also impressed in the ring on Thursday afternoon taking a commanding unanimous decision victory over South Africa’s Thandolwethu Mathiba.

The Belfast boxer won every round on all but one of the five judges' scorecards, while one even awarded a 10:8 round to Fryers, such was the dominance.

Next up for the Immaculata fighter is Italy’s Giordana Sorrento, which also takes place on Sunday.

Rock's victory in the 66kg division came by way of a 4:1 split decision against Austeja Auciute from Lithuania, and moves on to take on Anna Lysenko from Ukraine on Sunday.
