Lions squad announcement Live: Maro Itoje captain as Farrell reveals players
Andy Farrell today names his Lions squad to tour Australia.
The quadrennial tour is one of the most historic in rugby and only a select few have the honour of pulling on that famous Lions jersey. Today, at a live event in London's O2, the first time such an announcement will take place, Farrell will name the players he wants to take on the Wallabies this summer.
While the head coach has not been tied down to a specific number, he is likely to name around 37 or 38 players to take Down Under, with players made up from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
For the first time in a long time, it is expected that Wales will make up an incredibly low contingent of this squad owing to their shocking form on the Test stage. However, there are still a handful who are in the mix. Join WalesOnline Rugby's WhatsApp Channel here to get the breaking news sent straight to your phone for free
All players will find out live when former Wales wing Ieuan Evans announces who has made the cut, however reports last night claimed Maro Itoje has been selected as captain for the tour and will be the only selected player present at the O2.
The announcement is expected to take place at around 1.30pm and we will have all the build-up, announcement and reaction for you right here. Scroll down for live updates.
