Lionel Messi’s dad triggers Barcelona transfer frenzy as Paris Saint-Germain exit looms
Lionel Messi’s father and agent Jorge has fuelled hope among Barcelona fans the megastar will return to Catalunya.
The Argentina magician has one season left on his Paris Saint-Germain contract with an option of a further year.
It was reported in March following the French giants’ calamitous Champions League exit, Messi – and Neymar – could be sold.
It was also mused the MLS could be a potential destination ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
But a return to Barcelona cannot be ruled out and it became an even more likely prospect when Jorge dropped his latest bombshell.
Speaking to Jigantes in Spain, Messi snr said: “I hope Leo can come back to Barcelona one day.”
Messi, 34, has netted just six times in Ligue 1 this season as PSG flopped in Europe.
He enjoyed 17 years in the Barca first team, racking up 520 appearances and scoring 474 goals.
