Lincoln City Football Club's chief executive announces investigation into 'misogynistic abuse' against football official

Lincoln City Football Club's chief executive has issued a statement and announced the launch of an investigation into 'misogynistic abuse' against football official Rebecca Welch after what he has called an 'eventful weekend'. At the same time, he apologised to those impacted.

In his statement, Liam Scully praised the support of 'the vast majority' of fans who travelled to the match at Peterborough on Saturday and spoke of many fan's 'unconditional support' in the face of defeat. He then went on to speak about the journey Lincoln City Women have been on over the last few years as they opened the season against Doncaster Rovers Belles.

He said: "Seeing a women’s team run out in the red and white stripes at the LNER Stadium was one of the proudest moments I’ve had as chief executive of this great club." However, Mr Scully went on to highlight 'misogynistic abuse' from a minority of 'fans' aimed towards official Rebecca Welch.

As a result of this, the club 'will be launching a full investigation' into the incident and where evidence prevails it will 'take action against the perpetrators.' Anyone who can help with the investigation is asked to email feedback@theredimps.com with details.

To have such vocal and unconditional support was a true reminder of what this football club is about
