Limerick's Johnny Murphy confirmed as referee for All-Ireland SHC final

Limerick referee Johnny Murphy will take charge of the 2024 All-Ireland hurling final between Clare and Cork in under a fortnight's time.

It will be a first All-Ireland senior inter-county decider for Murphy, who previously refereed the minor final in 2018, the U20 final in 2021, Leinster final in 2021, and the All-Ireland senior club final in 2023.

In this year's championhip, Murphy oversaw the Tipperary-Clare clash in the Munster championship, as well as the Clare-Wexford quarter-final in Semple Stadium. He also refereed two games in the Leinster SHC - Wexford-Dublin and Dublin-Kilkenny.

This campaign is Murphy's seventh as a referee in the Liam MacCarthy compeition, having made his debut in 2018, and only the second in which he was eligible for consideration for the final, given Limerick's involvement in five deciders in that span.

He is the first Limerick official to referee the All-Ireland SHC final since Pat O'Connor, who oversaw the 1999, 2001 and 2003 deciders.

Galway's Liam Gordon and Tipperary's Michael Kennedy will serve as linesmen for the final, with Gordon installed as standby referee.
