Limerick aren't back, they never went away - Dónal Óg

Dónal Óg Cusack believes that Limerick sent a powerful reminder to any team that has aspirations of dethroning the All-Ireland hurling champions with their victory over Cork.

Limerick battled and scraped their way to a one-point win over Cork in front a packed TUS Gaelic Grounds to keep alive the Treaty men's hopes of landing a fourth Liam MacCarthy Cup

The Rebels made their hosts fight for every point, but no matter what they threw at them, Limerick found an answer.

Speaking on The Sunday Game, Cusack denied that the result means that Limerick are back now and said: "I don’t think they ever went away to be honest.

"You have to give them great credit, every time Limerick are playing now it’s like all the other teams have been getting better at tackling Limerick in terms of what they’re getting good at.

"They’ve been on the road a bit and every game is like an All-Ireland final when you’re playing Limerick and every team is bringing that fight to them.

"Time and time again today Cork gave it everything they could but Limerick still came out on top.

"Last week Tipperary in Thurles threw everything at Limerick but still Limerick came away with a result. They’re outstanding champions."

Joe Canning echoed Cusack’s sentiments and he believes that the win over Cork may be exactly what Limerick need to really kick their All-Ireland campaign up another notch and give them a big confidence boost.
