Ligue 1 clash abandoned after FIREWORK thrown onto pitch and leaves 'extremely traumatised' keeper needing stretcher

A game in Ligue 1 has been ABANDONED after a firework was set off and forced a goalkeeper to be stretchered off.

Montpellier found themselves leading 4-2 at home against Clermont and with the game in to injury time, the bizarre scene unfolded when a home supporter reportedly launched a firework towards Senegalese goalkeeper Mory Diaw. The pyro then exploded, stunning the shot-stopper who fell to the floor as medical teams rushed on. Former Celtic star Christopher Jullien was named among the substitutes as the game was temporarily stopped before being full on abandoned.

The chaos continued when Brazilian defender Neto Borges appeared to show a section of the home Montpellier support the middle finger, of which he was red carded for the gesture. Reports suggest Diaw was 'extremely traumatised' as referee Florent Batta. revealed to the media his reason for halting the game, saying: "The doctor who examined the Clermont goalkeeper certified that he was not in a condition to return to the field. The match is therefore halted definitively."

Clermont's official Twitter account posted: " Hit by a firecracker, Mory Diaw is evacuated on a stretcher... The referee sends the players back to the locker room...While CF63 was trailing 4 goals to 2, Mory Diaw was the victim of a firecracker thrown by a Montpellier supporter at the end of the second half.

"Affected, the Clermont goalkeeper had to be evacuated on a stretcher. Following this incident, the meeting was definitively stopped."
