Lightning cuts play short at ISPS Handa Championship

Overnight leader Scott Jamieson was able to complete just five holes of his third round at the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain as hail and the threat of lightning disrupted day three in Tarragona.

The Scot started the day with a two-shot lead at 11 under but had not struck a shot before play was suspended for four hours and 12 minutes due to the weather.

When the final group did get under way, Jamieson bogeyed the first after failing to get up and down but hit back from 10 feet on the third.

At that point he led by three but Canadian Aaron Cockerill hit an approach to 12 feet at the par-five last and rolled home an eagle putt to sign for a 62 and cut the advantage to one.

The hooter sounded again to end play for the day shortly after and Jamieson was left facing a marathon 31 holes on day four as he looks for a second DP World Tour title almost a decade after he claimed his first.

"On the first I hit a bad wedge shot and then it was a tough up-and-down," he said. "I hit a good putt but it just didn't go in. It was pretty solid after that.

"We’re only really halfway through the tournament aren’t we and there’s a little wind forecast tomorrow and I don’t know what it’s going to be like for those 12 or so holes in the morning. So I’ve just got to play the golf that’s in front of me the best that I can and see what it all adds up to."

Scot David Law and English pair Jack Senior and Andrew Wilson were at eight under with 12, 10 and three holes left to play in round three respectively.

Niall Kearney finished his round, carding a second successive 71 to remain at level par.
