Liel Abada state of play as Celtic and agent talks throw up Euro 2024 fear and MLS transfer hurdle

Liel Abada's chances of securing a move to the MLS in the second half of the season may have hit a stumbling block - with the winger's future at Celtic continuing to look increasingly bleak.

The 22-year-old has been dropped from the matchday squad in the Hoops last two matches, with boss Brendan Rodgers stating that the winger was not in the right frame of mind to step onto the pitch. The pro-Palestine stance among a section of the fanbase at Celtic Park has raised doubts about whether Israel international Abada can remain in Glasgow's east end, with the conflict between the two nations continuing to roll on.

The former Maccabi Petah Tikva youngster still has his eyes set on a place in the national team squad for Euro 2024, with Israel's success in the Nations League putting them just two play-off wins away from next summer's finals in Germany. The Sun report Abada's agents touched down in Glasgow today to discuss a potential move to the MLS, where the transfer window remains open ahead of the new 2024 season.

Several clubs in the US top-flight are believed to be interest in making an approach for the player, but league registration rules could make a permanent switch very difficult. MLS regulations state that the The Designated Player Rule - which has been coined as the Beckham Rule following David Beckham's transfer to LA Galaxy from Real Madrid in 2007 - allows MLS clubs to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap, either by offering the player higher wages or by paying his club a transfer fee.
