Liam Pope steps in as Blizzard pulls out of WBF fight with Nestor Bolum

Tyler Billzard

For fear of being knocked out, homeboy, Tyler Billzard, has pulled of the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Australiasian title fight against Sydney-based Nigerian professional boxer, Nestor Bolum. The 10-round contest is slated for June 30 in Sydney.

After his comeback victory against another homeboy, Luke Martin, in Australia last year, Bolum is being celebrated as a knockout specialist in that part of the world.

Speaking with The Guardian from his base in Sydney, yesterday, the Delta State-born Bolum, who represented Nigeria at Athens 2004 Olympic Games, said: “I’m in good condition now and I have started camping ahead of the fight on June 30. Blizzard has pulled out, but Liam Pope has come in. So, we will be fighting for a vacant Australian Featherweight title Belt. I am sure Blizzard pulled out because he can’t go the distance with me. This is my time by God’s grace.”

Bolum, a former Nigerian Airforce officer, revealed that he would draw inspiration from the victories recorded by Nigeria’s duo of Anthony Joshua and Israel Adesanya, recently.

“Those two guys are great warriors, who demonstrated the Nigeria spirit of never say die. In sports, you don’t give up, put in hard work, believe in yourself and above all, always trust God even when the road is rough. I congratulate those two Nigerian warriors on their victory,” Bolum stated.

The June 30 WBF fight is being promoted by Neutral Corner Fight Promotion PRO Boxing Revesby Workers. The Guardian recalls that Bolum won his comeback fight last November by beating Martin, a native of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, in a six-round contest via a majority decision by the judges.
