Liam Farrell reveals the most gifted player he's ever played with at Wigan Warriors

Liam Farrell has paid Bevan French the ultimate tribute by hailing him as the most special talent he has ever played with at Wigan Warriors. The Aussie winger soared to the top of the Super League scoring charts with an amazing seven-try haul in last Friday’s 60-0 home win over Hull FC.

It took his season tally to 20 and saw him rewrite the Super League record books, eclipsing Bradford Bulls legend Lesley Vainikolo who scored six tries, against the same opposition, in September 2005. Farrell has played alongside many great players during his long Wigan career since making his debut in 2010, but he reckons 26-year-old French is peerless when it comes to sheer ability.

“To score seven tries is phenomenal because you don’t see it knocking about in the game now, especially in Super League,” said Farrell, who is also enjoying an outstanding campaign. “You need to go back to the era of Martin Offiah, so I’m really chuffed that he’s been able to break Lesley Vainikolo’s record. His speed and talent with the ball is second to none, and we’ve seen it since the first day he got here. In the 2020 season he was outstanding but this year he’s been exceptional. To say he’s played most of the year on the wing, it’s unbelievable.”

Although French took centre stage against the hapless Black and Whites, Jai Field was not far behind. The Aussie full-back provided four assists and weighed in with two tries himself. Even if Wigan lose French at the end of the season when his contract expires amid
