Lewis O'Brien hails 'outstanding' Sorba Thomas and reveals secret behind Huddersfield Town success

The Huddersfield Town bandwagon marches on following Saturday's impressive 2-0 victory over Birmingham City.

But while key midfielder Lewis O'Brien is delighted at the Terriers' form, he is determined they maintain their focus on the next challenge, while hinting at the scecret behind their recent success.

Town led at St Andrews through Levi Colwill, before O'Brien doubled their lead just before the break, with Carlos Corberan's men returning with all three points.

“It’s team mentality, taking it game by game,” said the Terriers’ star midfielder O'Brien following the win.. “We don’t look forward and we don’t look back - we just take every game as it comes.

“It seems to be working so we’re going to keep doing it!”

O’Brien’s season started slowly thanks to a Covid absence but since December he’s been in top form. It’s not a coincidence that his best spell of the season has coincided with Town’s 17-game unbeaten run.

When asked what he put their current record-breaking second tier streak down to he felt it was clear that the additions to the squad over the summer have helped.

Last season after the new year the Terriers collapsed and faced an injury crisis as they lost key first-team players for long spells. This time there has been more chance to rotate and rest. O’Brien felt it has helped.

“There’s been a bit more rotation and I think that rotation has proved the team is strong enough to do it,” he said. "We’ve carried the run on because every lad is prepared to play when they get the chance.”

That run has so far seen them advance two rounds in the FA Cup and take 31 points since the beginning of December, but O’Brien was quick to point out that they were not taking anything for granted.
