Lewis Hamilton 'theft' called out by World Rally champion Sebastien Ogier

World Rally champion Sebastien Ogier has revealed that he believes seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton was robbed at last month's season finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hamilton - who was on the brink of a record eighth title - was pipped on the very final lap of the campaign by title rival Max Verstappen, who went on to claim his maiden world championship.

The finish was not without its controversy though, as the Briton had his once comfortable lead wiped out after the Red Bull driver was able to take advantage of a contentious call from FIA director Michael Masi.

With just six laps to go the lowly Nicholas Latifi crashed, forcing the safety car to be deployed late on.

This in turn saw Hamilton's almost unassailable lead grow smaller and smaller with each lap, and when Masi then made the controversial call to allow five lapped cars between the Briton and Verstappen past the safety car, the seven-time champion's lead was all but gone.

This led to the title rivals playing out a one-lap shootout in order to decide the world championship, and of course it was the Dutchman who prevailed, no doubt thanks to his much fresher tyres.

Many questions have been asked surrounding the controversial finish, and whether it was in fact lawful within FIA ruling.

One man who believes that Hamilton was in fact on the wrong end of poor officiating though is Ogier.

He told RMC's Super Moscato Show: "It [the situation] must have been very difficult to accept.

"He [Hamilton] had the impression of being robbed, and he has been robbed. Let's not be afraid of words.
