Lewis Hamilton issues big praise for George Russell after start to 2022 season

Lewis Hamilton has said that George Russell is doing an ‘amazing’ job and that he is working incredibly hard with him currently sitting second in the Drivers’ standings.

The two Mercedes drivers have had to deal with a rather lively car at times with it not at the performance level of the Ferrari or Red Bull, but it is at least proving reliable and that has allowed both drivers to score a podium each at the start of this season when they perhaps shouldn’t have been near the top three.

Indeed, it was Russell’s turn to take P3 on Sunday as he joined Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez on the podium, with Max Verstappen dropping out of the race when running in second.

That said, then, it’s clear Mercedes are doing a decent job of damage limitation whilst they work hard on improving their car and Hamilton has been impressed with the work he has seen from his new team-mate since arriving.

Speaking after the Australian Grand Prix, Hamilton was full of praise for his compatriot:

“It’s incredible.

“He’s done an amazing job. He did an amazing job [in the Australian Grand Prix], had great pace.

“He’s been so solid these first three races, and he’s working and really grafting away. He’s doing an amazing job.”

It’s clear Russell and Hamilton are getting on cordially inside the Mercedes garage and both drivers are pushing the team on as they look for performance gains.

Certainly, you feel as though when it clicks at Mercedes they will be able to make progress in the championship.
