Lewis Hamilton hoping for better in Baku after Monaco frustrations

Lewis Hamilton described his race as ‘one of those days in Monaco’ with him stuck behind Fernando Alonso for much of the Grand Prix.

The race was an entertaining one in many respects with rain throwing in an extra dynamic but for Lewis it was ultimately a very frustrating day’s work at the wheel of his Mercedes.

Indeed, the restart after Mick Schumacher’s crash saw him stuck behind Fernando Alonso for the rest of the race, with the Spaniard driving well within himself to ensure his tyres lasted until the end.

That said, then, Hamilton was just one of a number of cars behind the Alpine for the remainder of the Grand Prix, and post-race Lewis simply said it was just one of those days you get in Monte-Carlo, with him now looking forward to Baku:

“That was one of those days in Monaco – stuck behind other cars for most of the race and, in the end, just cruising but not able to overtake.

“I was glad when the rain came because that usually creates opportunities, unfortunately it didn’t play out that way and we couldn’t get past Ocon when I was running on the intermediates.

“It’s been a tough weekend and I’ve had some unlucky situations, like the red flag in qualifying, so I’m looking forward now to turning the page and heading to Baku.

“It’s a different kind of track, even though there are some similarities to the slow corners here in Monaco, but hopefully we can move forward and show a better level of performance like we saw in Barcelona.”
