Levy makes big statement, 24 y/o’s Spurs career over: Conte eyeing exciting £40m star - opinion

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly showing an interest in signing Dutch defender Sven Botman, and it could end up having a big impact two figures at the club.

Botman, who has been branded by The Athletic as a ‘rising defensive star’ has been a highly-wanted man in world football in recent months.

Last summer there were claims that Wolves and Sevilla were interested in him, whilst clubs like Newcastle United & AC Milan were taking a keen interest in him this past January transfer window.

However, it appears as though you can now through Tottenham’s name into the mix, as reports in Italy are suggesting that they are likely to be included in any negotiations for him this coming summer transfer window.

Reports ahead of the January window had suggested that it would cost roughly £40m and above in order to get Botman’s current club Lille to agree to sell him on.

Now given Levy’s well-known reputation when it comes to spending, and his caution when it comes to overspending, if Spurs were to get this deal done, it would represent a pretty big moment for Levy during his time in charge at the club.

The fact that he would be willing to not only sign a big, up and coming name in world football, but part with a substantial fee to make it happen, combined with his refusal to sell Harry Kane last summer, might well send a signal that Tottenham really mean business and are getting ready for a proper charge at silverware in the coming years.

However with one man coming in, it could well mean that one member of the Tottenham squad will have to leave, and the 24-year-old Welshman is arguably the most likely candidate to make way if that does happen.
