"Levy doesn't usually like to get involved" – Journalist raises doubts over Spurs transfer move

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is unlikely to become involved in a ‘financial tussle’ for Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The highly-rated 22-year-old is set to depart his boyhood club in the summer as a free agent after being unable to agree terms on a new contract at the Stade Vélodrome.

Marseille president Pablo Longoria has previously confirmed that Kamara will not sign a new deal with the French giants after reportedly demanding a huge increase on his current £46,000-per-week wages.

“To lose a player at the end of the contract, especially one of your best and one with one of the best (transfer) values in the squad, is always a failure,” said Longoria.

And Kamara’s situation has reportedly sparked the interest of a host of top clubs across the continent, who are eager to secure themselves a bargain.

According to Goal, reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are now ‘leading the race’ to sign the former France Under-21 international ahead of several European heavyweights.

The report states that Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been credited with an interest alongside Southampton.

Meanwhile, The Sun state that Premier League trio Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and West Ham have also joined the race for Kamara’s signature, potentially sparking a bidding war.

Although there will be no transfer fee involved in any deal for Kamara, the agent fee, signing on bonus and wage demands are likely to make it a costly affair, and Jones believes the extensive competition could put Levy off making a move.
