Leverkusen jinxed by injuries as Terrier sidelined

Bayer Leverkusen’s injury crisis worsened on Sunday with the news French striker Martin Terrier has a broken arm, the third blow suffered by the Bundesliga champions in three days.

Terrier, 27, added to coach Xabi Alonso’s worries ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League match with RB Salzburg.

He had already lost centre-forward Victor Boniface “for a few matches” with a leg injury while winger Jonas Hofmann was ruled out for the rest of 2024 with a thigh injury.

Terrier, who Leverkusen paid Ligue 1 side Rennes a reported 20 million euros ($20.1million) for in July, only lasted a few minutes after coming on in Saturday’s 5-2 win over Heidenheim.

He will miss Leverkusen’s seven remaining matches this year, including the German Cup match with Bayern Munich.

After winning the title without losing a match Leverkusen are currently fourth after 11 games some nine points adrift of Bayern Munich.
