Leona Maguire tied for 31st at Honda LPGA Thailand as home favourite Paphangkorn Tavatanakit wins

Home favourite Paphangkorn Tavatanakit triumphed by one shot to win the Honda LPGA Thailand tournament, with Ireland's Leona Maguire finishing in a tie for 31st.

Tavatanakit, who finished on 21 under after a final round 67 on Sunday at the Siam Country Club course, becomes the second Thai player to win the home-country tournament since it began in 2006.

She was a shot clear of Switzerland's Albane Valenzuela whose impressive nine-under 63 was ultimately not enough to catch the leader.

South Korean duo Hye-Jin Choi and Sei-Young Kim finished tied for third after a 66 and 65 respectively.

LEADERBOARD

"It's a great feeling playing in front of my parents and home crowd. It's incredible to be able to stand here right now at this moment," Tavatanakit said.

"I'm so grateful for all the fans. The support on 15 was I think an important key for today.

"So, yeah, I feel so lucky to have all these fans and my parents for their continuous support. I haven't won in front of my parents yet, so I'm pretty happy to be able to do that in front of them."

Maguire had been eight shots behind Tavatanakit going into Sunday's final round after a momentum-stalling one-under 71 on Saturday.

And she was unable to climb the leaderboard with a 72, two bogeys on the front nine mirrored by two birdies on the back nine, seeing her finish where she had started on eight under and in a 10-way tie for 31st.
