Leona Maguire loses ground at Women's World Championship after second-round 77

Leona Maguire struggled to a second round of 77 as she slipped down the leaderboard at the Women's World Championship in Singapore.

The Cavan woman was unable to back up yesterday's impressive 70 at Sentosa Golf Club, which left her two shots off first-round leader Sarah Schmelzel.

A three-over-par round meant the 29-year-old goes into the weekend tied for 38th and 10 shots adrift of halfway leader Celine Boutier of France.

Maguire’s sole birdie of the afternoon came at the par-five eighth, cancelling out a bogey at the third, but disaster stuck at the ninth when she carded a double-bogey. Further dropped shots arrived at 14, 16 and 17.

Boutier holds a one-shot lead after a sensational 64.

Starting the day at the 10th and on one over, she had three birdies by the turn before really turning on the style on the front nine with five birdies.
