Leon Dajaku describes Bailey Wright in four words after Sunderland man’s heroics v Sheffield Wednesday

Sunderland put in an excellent performance to earn a 1-1 draw in their League One play-off semi final second leg at Sheffield Wednesday, resulting in a 2-1 victory on aggregate.

The Black Cats take on 2019/20 third tier play-off winners Wycombe Wanderers in the final, and will be hoping to avoid the heartbreak they suffered in 2018/19 against Charlton Athletic.

Bailey Wright has come back into the team to great effect under Alex Neil in the last few months, and the Australian was a crucial player in edging out the Owls over two legs.

Wright suffered a cut to the face in the first half but soldiered on to put in a commanding performance at centre back.

Leon Dajaku, who has spent the season on loan from Union Berlin at the Stadium of Light, took to Instagram to share his thoughts on Wright’s character and performance.

He posted: “This guy’s a real fighter.”

Lee Johnson’s reign was a difficult one for Wright, with Callum Doyle, on loan from Manchester City, preferred to the more experienced option in the first half of the season.

However, the 29-year-old has developed a great understanding with, January addition, Danny Batth, and as a result, promotion back to the second tier has never felt closer for the Black Cats.

A fifth straight season in League One is even more unimaginable now for the Black Cats, and they thoroughly deserved this victory over the two legs.

Wednesday have been one of the best teams in the division since the back end of 2021, and Sunderland are possibly the only team to get a handle on the midfield trio of Barry Bannan, Massimo Luongo and George Byers.
