Leny Yoro contract details emerge as Manchester United close in on £52m transfer

Manchester United are on the brink of signing Leny Yoro from Lille for a fee that could rise to £59m. The 18-year-old defender is set to sign a five-year deal, with an option to extend by a further year, pending a successful medical.

Yoro's move to Old Trafford was decided last Tuesday, following an agreement between the two clubs. He has now arrived in the North West to finalise terms and undergo his medical.

The Frenchman is poised to become Erik ten Hag's second summer signing, after Joshua Zirkzee's £36.5m move from Bologna. Yoro, who has been likened to Virgil van Dijk, was previously pursued by Real Madrid, but they were unwilling to match United's offer.

Lille preferred to sell Yoro this summer rather than risk losing him for free when his contract expires next year. Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest in the young star, but United seized the opportunity when Real failed to close the deal.

United's pursuit of defensive reinforcements doesn't end with Yoro, although they will need to offload players before making further additions. The club has already had bids for Jarrod Branthwaite rejected this summer, with Everton turning down offers of £43m and £50m, holding out for a figure closer to £70m.

Sean Dyche's team are said to be demanding a higher price for their defender, who is contracted until 2027. Everton have previously pointed to the high transfer fees paid for players like Harry Maguire, Wesley Fofana and Josko Gvardiol, all of which exceeded £75m.
