Lennox Lewis responds to a fan who criticised his win over Mike Tyson

Boxing legend Lennox Lewis had the perfect response as he hit back at a Twitter user who questioned the legitimacy of his win over Mike Tyson.

The two men had a heated rivalry and an infamous build-up to their blockbuster fight back in 2002.

But it was The Lion who stood tall after a stunning eighth-round knockout win over the Baddest Man on the Planet.

And Lewis, 56, took the time out of his day to respond to a critic’s message about his famous victory over Tyson, also 56, replying to a post that was shared to his Twitter account almost three years ago.

The former undisputed heavyweight world champion’s post consisted of a video of their infamous brawl at their press conference, where Tyson provoked Lewis into a rage before going on one of the most obscene rants in the history of the sport.

Commenting on Lewis’ original tweet, the fan wrote: “Yeah well maybe it should have been suspended Lewis so it never happened at all!

“It’s a nonsense fight that you’ve never gained some sort of legacy from!

“Don’t get me wrong I completely understand you whooped Tyson’s a**.

“But let’s face it… that Tyson…”

In response, Lewis tweeted: “Mike could have fought me when he was the champ and I was the mandatory No. 1 contender.

“There was nothing but air and opportunity at the time.”

Lewis recently teased that he could come back for one more against Tyson one last time before they both get too old to wear the gloves again.

And he also revealed that he somehow managed to keep the ring that they fought in all those years ago – despite the canvas still being covered in the blood of his former mortal enemy.
