Lengthy M4 delays after crash between Margam and Sarn – live updates

A section of the M4 was in both directions following a crash that left two people in hospital. Traffic was held in both directions between junction 38 at Margam and junction 37 for Sarn for more than an hour on Monday afternoon.

Traffic Wale posted a photo showing lengthy queues while images from the area appeared to show that people had got out of their cars as delays in excess of an hour were reported. The road was blocked off by police at 2.40pm. A South Wales Police spokesman said during the closure: "Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use an alternative route."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to the Pyle area of the M4 near Bridgend this afternoon (March 21) at 12.08pm to reports of a two-car road traffic collision. We sent one emergency ambulance and the hazardous area response team to the scene. Two patients were taken to the Princess of Wales Hospital for further treatment.”

The road was re-opened at 4.05pm but at 4.30pm traffic monitoring system Inrix said eastbound congestion was as far back as junction 41 with the westbound carriageway seeing traffic back to junction 36.
