Leinster apologise after 'Celtic Symphony' played over RDS PA system
Leinster Rugby has issued an apology after the song 'Celtic Symphony' was played over the PA system following their URC win over Connacht at the RDS this evening.
The Wolfe Tones song, which contains lyrics suggesting support of the IRA in the chorus, was played on the PA after Leinster's 41-12 victory, their 13th win from 13 games in the 2022-23 season.
Tonight, Leinster Rugby issued a statement saying the song shouldn't have been played and apologised for any offence caused.
"A song was played over the PA at the RDS Arena this evening that shouldn't have been played. Leinster Rugby has taken measures to ensure it doesn't happen again and apologises sincerely for its use and for any offence caused."
The song was at a centre of controversy late last year when the FAI were fined €20,000 by UEFA after videos circulated of the Republic of Ireland's women's team singing the anthem in the dressing after qualifying for their first ever World Cup with a win over Scotland at Hampden Park.
