Leigh pull off major coup with Lachlan Lam signing

Championship promotion-chasers Leigh have made a huge statement of intent by signing Papua New Guinea superstar Lachlan Lam until the end of 2023.

The 24-year-old half-back has made 31 appearances for the Roosters since making his NRL debut in 2019. However, he has found chances limited at Trent Robinson’s side this season, having not played a first-grade game.

Lam, who link up with his father Adrian at the Centurions, will be hoping to play in his second World Cup for Papua New Guinea this autumn.

Lam said: “I’m excited to be joining Leigh Centurions. I’ve seen the success of the team this year and coming over to link up with dad will be something we’ve not done for a real long time. I’m really excited to be doing that.

“Lachlan will make a big difference to our squad for the rest of the year and for 2023. He fits perfectly into our recruitment policy, and we can build a club around players like Lachlan.”

Chester thanked the continued investment of club owner Derek Beaumont, who has made no secret of his ambitions to make Leigh a successful Super League club.

He said: “But for the support of Derek financially, signings
