Leigh dog attack: Woman arrested and 15 dogs seized after Jonathan Hogg, 37, mauled to death

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of money laundering in connection with a fatal dog attack on a dad-of-five. Jonathan Hogg, 37, was mauled to death by what was believed to be an XL bully type dog at a house in Leigh on Thursday night.

The dog was later shot dead by armed police. Today (Saturday) police said a 22-year-old female had been arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

It follows the arrest of a 24-year-old man on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog causing injury resulting in death. Both suspects have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Six adults dog and nine puppies have also been seized after two houses were searched as part of the investigation, while £37,000 of 'items believed to be the result of criminal proceeds' have also been confiscated.

Det Chief Insp John Davies said: "Our investigations into this violent attack are moving at a pace, as our officers work relentlessly to understand the events that led to Jonathan’s death.

"GMP officers searched two houses and seized 15 dogs believed to be the same breed as that which attacked Jonathan. These dogs are now being cared for at a specialist facility.

"Items totalling a value of £37,500 believed to be the result of criminal proceeds have been seized. Dangerous dogs do not have a place in our communities, and we want to reassure the public that we are doing everything in our power to keep people safe."

Mr Hogg, a mechanic from Hindley in Wigan, was known by friends and family as 'Oggy'. He was the father of three boys aged 16, 11, and four-months-old and two girls aged three and one.
