Leicester’s move to appoint Jesse Marsch as manager close to collapse

Leicester’s move to make Jesse Marsch their manager is on the verge of collapse. The club had been confident of appointing the former Leeds head coach after talks reached an advanced stage but on Sunday evening agreement had not been secured on the final points of the negotiations.

As things stand, Marsch has not been convinced to take the job at the Premier League’s second-bottom club. He had been identified by the owners to replace Brendan Rodgers, who left this month. The team have lost two games out of two under the caretaker manager Adam Sadler.

There are echoes of Marsch’s talks with Southampton in February, shortly after he had been dismissed by Leeds. Southampton had expected to make the American their manager after positive talks but the deal broke down over the length of contract.

Among other coaches who have been under consideration by Leicester are Ralph Hassenhüttl, who was sacked by Southampton this season, Óscar García, who has had spells with Brighton and Watford and whose most recent job was with Reims, and the former Newcastle manager Rafa Benítez.
