Leicester City transfer target catches Brendan Rodgers' eye ahead of King Power Stadium audition

Leicester City will have to be wary of winger Noni Madueke making his mark at the King Power Stadium amid the England Under-21 international’s links to the club.

Madueke could line up on PSV Eindhoven’s right flank for Thursday’s Europa Conference League quarter-final against City, having chosen to take an increasingly promising path of leaving the English academy system to get first-team football around Europe. Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham have been big hits at Borussia Dortmund, and after leaving Tottenham as a youngster, Madueke has now made his name at PSV.

He has a combined 31 goals and assists in 66 games for the Dutch giants, figures that appear to have caught City’s eye. It is understood that a new right winger is among the priorities for the club in the transfer window, and Madueke is a player who has been listed as a potential target, with his name first emerging last summer.

City boss Brendan Rodgers was impressed with the progress he has made and believes he will be someone his side have to keep a keen eye on in what should be a match full of attacking endeavour. “He’s done really well,” Rodgers said.

“He came through the system over here but clearly felt he wanted to play first-team football and maybe there was that opportunity abroad. You’ve seen other young players do that, going into Germany and into Holland.

“He’s a talented player, he’s physically very good, he’s got a nice left foot, he’s dynamic, he wants to run in behind, so he’s a threat. I know he plays with Luke (Thomas) in the Under-21s. He’ll be a threat I’m sure.”
