Leicester City transfer news: Sofiane Diop the latest target as Brendan Rodgers winger plan emerges

Reports claim Brendan Rodgers is monitoring Monaco winger Sofiane Diop and may look to make a move in the summer transfer window.

The Foxes rallied to finish eighth in the Premier League table after an up-and-down campaign. They ended with three wins and a draw from their last four games but never won more than two consecutive league games throughout 2021-2022. And the East Midlanders have been tipped to shake things up in the off-season.

A number of areas need strengthening and Diop is said to be on the radar. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a couple of outstanding seasons for the principality outfit.

He dipped his toe in the water with 13 outings in 2018-2019. But the talented youngster has been handed 48 starts among 62 Ligue 1 appearances over the past two seasons.

He bagged seven goals in 2020-21 and six in the season just finished to help Monaco finish third in the table. Unsurprisingly clubs have taken note, with Leicester ‘investigating’ a possible summer swoop.

That is according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, who suggests he could be available for around £20m.

Diop plays on the left wing but has been deployed on the opposite flank as well. And, with Leicester known to be in the market for a right-sided midfielder, Diop could be a versatile addition.

Along with his goals, the France Under-21 ace also provided five assists last term. He would be an exciting recruit to the Foxes ranks but much will depend on other players.

Ademola Lookman spent last season on loan at King Power Stadium. He scored eight goals from 42 appearances in all competitions.
