Leicester City transfer comments made as Leeds United close in on double deal

Leeds United fans have been comparing themselves to Leicester City as big money deals for Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips near completion.

The pair are both heading toward exits from Elland Road with Arsenal reported to be intensifying their efforts to sign Brazilian Raphinha, while Manchester City are looking more and more likely to be the next destination for Phillips. Both are seen as key players within Jesse Marsch's squad in Yorkshire and will be regarded as high-profile losses should they be absent from the Whites' squad this term.

The deals could result in a large injection of cash into Leeds' bank balance as they look to add improvements to their remaining squad. Leeds value Raphinha at £65 million, whilst Phillips' move to City could provide another £50m including add-ons according to transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

Some Leeds fans have even been drawing a comparison between the pair's potential moves and when Leicester City sold Harry Maguire, Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante.

The former City trio all left the King Power Stadium in a period spanning three years. Kante was the first to depart, joining Chelsea in 2016, before Mahrez headed to the Etihad Stadium two years later. Maguire closely followed when he joined Manchester United in 2019.

The transfers resulted in a combined income of around £170m which was spent wisely by the Foxes hierarchy on useful additions. While some Leeds fans are confident this is the model they are chasing, others are showing more concern.

Leicester were ok when they lost kante and Marez. The money needs to be invested which it will be.

Selling your only 2 star players is not the Leicester model. It’s the how to get relegated model.
