Leicester City receive double boost as Brendan Rodgers makes decision

Long-serving Leicester City winger Marc Albrighton has been named the club’s new vice-captain in a collective decision among staff and players.

City needed a new number two for the armband after Jonny Evans stepped up to replace Kasper Schmeichel as skipper. There were a number of candidates for the role, with Jamie Vardy, Youri Tielemans, and Ricardo Pereira all having captained the side before, and with James Maddison and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall recently praised for their leadership abilities.

But Albrighton has been selected as a player who is highly-respected by staff for the standards he sets in training, and by his team-mates for the achievements in his career and his committed performances in matches.

Jonny Evans may have had thoughts about retirement after Leicester City's defeat to Arsenal, according to Gunners legend Ian Wright.

Evans had a torrid afternoon up against in-form striker Gabriel Jesus at the Emirates Stadium, with City falling to a 4-2 defeat last weekend. The result has prompted Wright to deliver a brutally honest verdict about the Leicester captain.

"I’m not being disrespectful to Jonny Evans, but the fact is it was the kind of game where you start thinking 'maybe I need to start considering retirement'," Wright said.
