Leicester City old boys send message about 'invaluable' star after nerve-wracking Rennes victory

Leicester City old boys Danny Simpson and Emile Heskey have heaped praise on the returning Wesley Fofana.

The 21-year-old put in a sensational defensive display on his return after over seven months out with injury. He was stellar at the back alongside Daniel Amartey.

He capped his performance off with a goal, a header from a set-piece early in the second half. Pandemonium struck online as it hit the back of the net, with the City man running to celebrate with Brendan Rodgers and Kolo Toure.

Simpson and Heskey, who covered the match as pundits for BT Sport, both had glowing words for the returning Frenchman. After completing over 70 minutes, there is relief that Fofana got through the game unscathed.

"We keep forgetting he's 21 years old," Heskey said. "Having seven months out, coming back into a game like this off the back of Covid and putting in a performance like this, putting his body on the line, was fantastic. He didn't want to come off and it shows he's so invaluable to this team."

Simpson added: "They've missed him. They have had problems defensively and everyone knows what a talent he is. For Brendan, the players and the fans it's a massive boost for the rest of the season that he's come through that unscathed."
