Leicester City could get unexpected summer transfer boost from rivals

Leicester City may be given a boost before the end of the summer transfer window with the arrival of Martyn Glover as head of recruitment.

City have been without anyone in the position since the departure of Lee Congerton back in March. The former City man left back in March, joining Serie A side Atalanta after three years with the club.

His departure led to City searching for a new head of recruitment, with Southampton’s Martin Glover quickly identified as the man to take the role. It did, though, seem that the club would have to wait until the end of the transfer window to complete the appointment with the Saints keen for him to oversee the summer window.

That now could possibly change, with Southampton said to be closing in on securing Glover’s replacement. According to The Athletic, talks are "progressing well" with Manchester City’s head of recruitment and talent management Joe Shields to arrive at St Mary’s.

The report adds that an appointment could be made "before the transfer window ends". That could therefore free up Glover to make the move to the King Power Stadium slightly earlier than initially expected.

If the new head of recruitment is in before the end of the transfer window he could potentially be thrown into the deep end and start work on any potential late deals. But with most of the work done prior to the transfer window opening, more emphasis is likely to be placed on upcoming windows both in January and next summer.

During his time at Southampton he was involved in the signings of the likes of Che Adams, Kyle Walker-Peters and Tino Livramento. He has previously worked at Everton, Sunderland, Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers.
