Legendary metal night Jilly’s Rockworld to return for one night only

Jilly’s Rockworld, the iconic Manchester rock and heavy metal night, will be back for one night only in April.

The original date for the reunion event, to celebrate - or perhaps commiserate - 10 years since the club’s closure, was all set to take place on April 11, 2020.

However, the pandemic put paid to those plans, as the country went into the first lockdown.

And then in a second stroke of bad luck, its rescheduled date, April 15, 2021, then fell into the second lockdown.

Now, presuming no further lockdowns, the event is to happen on April 9.

Jilly’s, the flyers for which boasted ‘rock, metal, punk, goth, alternative & nu-wave alt’, ran three nights a week from 1983 until it closed its doors in 2010.

These days, the site is occupied by the Tesco Metro on Oxford Road.

Formerly known as Fagins, the club was a beacon for rock and metal fans from all across the North West, and threw an all-nighter once a month, which ran until 7am.

It would famously serve Pot Noodles behind the bar on the all-nighters, to soak up the cider.

Sadly, one of the club’s most beloved DJs, John Gannon, who also played at The Ritz and Satan’s Hollow, died in 2020 from kidney failure, aged 55.

The reunion event will take place at The O2 Ritz, with tickets for the previously cancelled events still valid.
