Doubts raised over whether Ralf Rangnick can fix Manchester United's 'attitude' problem

Rio Ferdinand and Peter Crouch are unsure whether Ralf Rangnick is the right man to fix Manchester United's problems.

Rangnick was brought in as a temporary replacement for the sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December, taking the reins until the end of the season.

After that, the German will take up a consultancy role and United will then move to hire a permanent boss, with Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag the current front-runners.

Whoever's in charge, however, Crouch believes the attitude of the United squad is a big issue.

"My worry’s been the players this season, a lot of the players has been said about attitude and these things coming out of dressing rooms that you don’t like to hear," he said on BT Sport.

"I think whoever comes in and takes that role after Rangnick has a real job on his hands to make a harmonious dressing room again because with the body language, there are arms thrown people tweet[ing] coming out on Twitter undermining the manager [Lingard, Martial] and that should not be happening.

"We spoke about Thomas Tuchel and the handling of Romelu Lukaku that got nipped in the bud early that shouldn’t be happening. Regardless of who comes in, I think sometimes you have to look at the players and not the manager, whoever comes in has a real job on their hands to galvanise this squad and team, if they finish in the top four that’s a success but next season got to be done right.

Ferdinand echoed those thoughts by saying he believes United's squad doesn't fear their manager.

"When you look at successful clubs, there’s an element of fear within that club that flows through someone leading that club," the former centre-back said.
