Leeds: 'You do get the feeling' £7.2m star could be in danger

Tyler Roberts‘ position is one Leeds United could look to strengthen this summer, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 23-year-old, who has made just seven league starts this season, has often played in roles just behind the lone striker during his time at Elland Road.

Roberts has just the sole league goal to his name, but again, the £7.2m-rated Welshman has not been a regular a starter.

It was a similar theme last term, with Roberts registering just once in the English top flight after making 14 starts under former manager Marcelo Bielsa.

In that successful 2020/21 campaign for Leeds, the Wales international was mostly used as an attacking midfielder, playing 17 times in that position.

He would have been hoping to impress Jesse Marsch and cement a place in the team following the American’s arrival last month, but that will now have to wait after surgery on his hamstring ended his season.

Winning Marsch over next term could be tricky, though, with Jones telling GIVEMESPORT that he thinks Leeds will try to strengthen in the ex-West Brom player’s position this summer.

Speaking to GMS about Roberts, the football journalist said: “You do get the feeling that his position is one of those that will be targeted in the summer to be strengthened.”

You would have to say that bringing in another natural No.9 also has to be a priority for Leeds when the transfer window reopens.

They have looked extremely light there this season, with first-choice forward Patrick Bamford picking up several injuries.
