Leeds: Victor Orta 'still looking' at £35m star at Elland Road
Leeds United are “still looking” at a deal to bring PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands winger Cody Gakpo to the club, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.
The Whites had been linked with a move for the 23-year-old on deadline day, but the wide man remained in the Netherlands following the closure of the transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Gakpo and Leeds had agreed personal terms ahead of a potential move to the Premier League ahead of the closure of the summer transfer window.
Despite the move eventually falling through, the same insider says that Jesse Marsch’s side are determined to attempt another swoop for the PSV starlet again in January.
Meanwhile, Football Insider have reported that Gakpo is looking to change agents in a bid to get the winger a move to the Premier League in the near future.
And Thornton says that director of football Victor Orta, believes that Leeds still have a positive relationship with PSV and that he hopes a deal can be done.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “The Chairman said as much didn’t he.
“He tweeted on deadline day saying that they were still working on it and Victor Orta also spoke at the time.
“I had a chat with him in the early hours of the next morning after the deadline day as he was leaving Elland Road.
“He was sort of saying that they’ve still got a good relationship with PSV and that they were still looking at that one.”
If Gakpo could transfer his European and Eredivisie form to the Premier League, he would likely represent fantastic business for the Whites in January for a reported deal of around £35m.
The Eindhoven-born winger has enjoyed a fantastic start to the current campaign, scoring ten goals and providing nine assists in 13 appearances, according to
