Leeds United news as Rangers pursue James McAtee and Raphinha holds out for Barcelona move
Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Sunday, July 3, 2022.
Rangers will test the water at the Etihad with an ‘ambitious’ loan bid for James McAtee, according to the Scottish Sun . The Manchester City star has been linked with a loan move away from the Premier League champions as he looks to make the step up to senior football.
Leeds United have been linked with a move for the teenager this summer, with suggestions he may have been involved in the deal to take Kalvin Phillips across to Manchester. Despite that not being the case - the Whites will instead sign his teammate Darko Gyabi for around £5million - Victor Orta is still eyeing a loan deal for the attacking midfielder.
Raphinha wants a move to Barcelona and would put himself among a list of Brazilian greats at the club, according to Tim Vickery. The Leeds United winger has been the subject of endless speculation this summer from the likes of Barca, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal, with a move away from Elland Road looking almost certain.
Chelsea currently lead the race as the only club to have an offer - believed to be around £60million - accepted by the club, but they have run into a brick wall when trying to negotiate personal terms. That is due mainly to the fact that Raphinha and his agent, ex-Barca and Chelsea man Deco, are both awaiting Barcelona’s approach.
Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Lewis O’Brien, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon , as they look to prepare for a return to the Premier League after 23 years. The Huddersfield Town midfielder has been heavily linked with Leeds United since last summer, with the club reportedly tabling a bid of £8million but refusing to match the Terrier’s £10million valuation.
