Leeds United linked with approach for nine-goal, relegated forward Alberth Elis

Leeds United are looking into the potential signing of Alberth Elis from Bordeaux after the French side’s relegation from Ligue 1, according to a report.

Bordeaux will be dropping down to the French second tier after finishing bottom of the 2021-22 Ligue 1. They only won six of their 38 league games, finishing five points adrift of safety. They are now preparing for their first season outside the top flight since 1992.

Meanwhile, Leeds narrowly avoided a similar fate in the Premier League. They were in and around the relegation zone for most of the season. However, results went their way on the final day to secure 17th place.

It means they can plan for a third consecutive season in the top tier. They are already working hard in the transfer market, having wrapped up deals for RB Salzburg duo Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen.

Another area of their squad to improve is their attack. Leeds suffered in the absence of Patrick Bamford during the season just gone, and are having to fend off interest in Raphinha.

To increase their options in the final third, the Whites have been linked with a few players. The latest to emerge on their radar is Honduran attacker Elis.

According to L’Equipe, Elis is of interest to Leeds and has even been the subject of offers.

The 26-year-old spent the season on loan at Bordeaux from Boavista in Portugal. Bordeaux can buy him for €7.5m (£6.4m) and then sell him for profit, which may be useful within their summer rebuild.

They are expecting to change as many as 16 to 18 members of their playing squad. Elis is one of those most likely to be moved on to help them financially. In turn, Leeds could give him his first chance to play in the Premier League.
