Leeds transfer news: Orta and Bielsa's 'priority' for summer window is already clear

Journalist Pete O’Rourke claims that Leeds United are likely to prioritise deals to sign a central midfielder and a right-back in the summer transfer window.

The club were not able to bring a new player into the club during the last month, despite attempts to do so.

The club made real attempts to bring in a new player during the January transfer window.

They were heavily linked with a potential swoop to sign RB Salzburg star Brenden Aaronson and a bid to sign the USA international ultimately ended in failure.

Leeds had a first bid of £15m rejected by the Austrian club, as they looked to keep their squad together ahead of a Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

A second offer of £20m was also unsuccessful, meaning that Leeds ended the transfer window without bringing a new signing into the club.

As a result, they face playing the rest of the season with the squad that was already at the club at Elland Road at the start of the campaign.

Leeds are currently 15th in the Premier League table, although they are seven points clear of the relegation zone.

However, they were beaten by Newcastle United last time out, meaning they could be in real danger of falling back into a relegation scrap if they cannot start stringing wins together.

Nevertheless, O’Rourke believes that deals to sign two new players, in both midfield and in defence, will become priorities for sporting director Victor Orta and Bielsa in the summer.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “I think that centre mid and right back will become more of a priority for Leeds in the summer.”

They need to stay up first.
