Leeds 'interested' in £20m midfielder at Elland Road

Leeds United have an interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks this summer although a deal remains some way off, according to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic.

Jesse Marsch has endured a hectic summer at Elland Road with big names departing and a raft of new recruits arriving but there is still plenty of time to complete other bits of business.

Just shy of £100 million has been spent on transfers so far this summer with six new signings made including Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Darko Gyabi and Brenden Aaronson.

All four players ply their trade within midfield but with Adam Forshaw picking up an injury in pre-season, another may now be on the agenda, especially with the departure of Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City still fresh.

Winks looks set to leave Tottenham this summer after being left out of the club’s pre-season trip to South Korea by Antonio Conte.

The 26-year-old played just 19 times in the Premier League last season, providing just one assists, and is reportedly valued at £20 million by the north Londoners with two years remaining on his contract.

According to Eccleshare, the 10-cap England international has previously caught the attention of Leeds.

According to The Athletic’s Tottenham correspondent, Leeds have held an interest in signing Winks this summer.

But Eccleshare admits that it seems unlikely the move will go any further as things stand.

When asked whether he could see Winks securing a move to another Premier League side, Eccleshare told GIVEMESPORT: “Yeah, I can. Everton were interested then cooled that interest. Leeds is a name I’ve heard mentioned, but as I’ve reported, I don’t think that’s going to go any further. So it’s interesting as to who really pushes for him.”
