Leeds: £40m star now 'expected' to sign new deal at Elland Road

Leeds United will offer winger Jack Harrison a ‘new contract in the next two months or so’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road over the summer but ended up staying put and has now entered the final two years of his existing deal.

Back in May, The Telegraph first reported that Newcastle United were ‘interested’ in signing Harrison but feared Leeds’ Premier League survival on the final day of the season would make any potential transfer difficult.

The Athletic then supported up those claims, stating that both the Magpies and Tottenham Hotspur were admirers of the former England Under-21 international.

And French outlet Footmercato went on to state that Newcastle saw a £33.5 million bid rejected by Leeds for Harrison’s services as they were demanding a £40m fee to sanction his sale.

Eddie Howe’s charges were unwilling to match the west Yorkshire outfit’s demands, though, and brought in Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad instead.

90min have since reported that Leeds are hoping to agree a contract extension with Harrison in what remains of 2022, and getting the attacker to commit his future to the club is now a priority for them.

Leeds lost two key players in Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips in the previous transfer window and appeared determined to keep hold of their other prized assets.

And Jones has informed GiveMeSport that the Whites are certain to offer Harrison fresh terms in the near future.

He said: “When Newcastle were linked with him, I was constantly told it would not happen as he was too highly rated, and now I’m being told that we should definitely expect a new contract in the next two months or so.”
