Lee Keegan: Mayo attack 'low in terms of efficiency'

A lack of efficiency in attack is hindering Mayo, according to former county star Lee Keegan, with the Westport man looking to Tyrone's twin attacking threats of Darren Canavan and Darren McCurry as a template for how to be more potent up front.

McCurry hit eight points after coming off the bench at half time to inspire the Red Hand to victory in the Division 1 leaguer clash in Omagh.

It was Darragh Canavan's 47th-minute goal that put daylight between the teams, as the Ulster side ran out four-point victors.

Keegan, speaking on Allianz League Sunday, was full of praise for the Tyrone forward duo.

"It's the bit of gold dust and magic that Tyrone now have," he said.

"McCurry looked really up for it last night. I think there was a bit laying down the law that he add to up his game because he has that in his locker. The consistency is now the next question. Those two up front are a lethal combination. They absolutely tore Mayo asunder."

What Tyrone have up front is what Mayo lack at the moment - that bit of dynamism - and in Keegan's view it's something that is holding Kevin McStay's side back.

Expanding on this, the five-time All-Star added: " We have a certain prototype in Mayo; our attack has been quite low in terms of efficency; we are not getting the scores. The two lads [Canavan and McCurry] are playing to Tyrone's needs.

"We have Paddy Durkan and Sam Callinan, players that need to run the ball regularly. We need to look at our attacking play and look at our fluency, I don't think it's there at the moment.
