Lee Bowyer opens up on Harlee Dean's Birmingham City exit

Lee Bowyer says he expects Harlee Dean to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan before the transfer window closes.

Speaking after Birmingham City’s 2-2 draw with Peterborough, delivered courtesy of late goals from Gary Gardner and Scott Hogan, the head coach was asked about the prospect of Dean moving on.

Bowyer said: “That’s going to happen I think. That should help to free up a little bit of money.”

Asked to explain the rationale he added: “I think that there needs to be change. Some people [are] in a comfort zone.

“I think that if things don’t change we will be in the same situation every year.

“Yes, he is the club captain but I demand certain things and expect certain things to happen. That’s why he is moving on.”

Bowyer also confirmed his desire to bring in two new players before the trip to Derby this weekend.

revealed earlier that an offer has been made for a central midfielder, while Bowyer also wants reinforcements up front.

“I am hoping and pushing to try and get a couple in for Sunday because there were a lot of tired players out there today. Hopefully we can bring in a couple more before the weekend.

“We need a striker. Again I couldn’t bring Jukey off on the weekend to give him a half-hour’s rest for tonight.

“We have to remember he has come back from a hamstring injury and I can’t even give him a little break.

“I have got a 17-year-old kid [Jordan James] running around giving everything all the time. So they are two positions.”
